Jean Anne (Reichart) Staab, 88, of Springfield, died at 10:45 pm, Monday, May 10, 2021 at her home.  She was born on January 17, 1933, in New Berlin, to John Albert and Florence Maude (Hatcher) Reichart. She married Paul John Staab on January 15, 1955 and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1991.

She is survived by seven children; Paula Jean Staab Polk of Burbank, CA, George John (Gwen) Staab II of Athens, Paul John (Ruth) Staab II of Springfield, Nancy Carol (Tom Sklenka) Staab of Springfield, Mark David (Brenda) Staab of Springfield, Karen Lynette (Steve) Rhodes of Waverly, and Suanne Kathleen (Paul) Palazzolo of Springfield; 29 grandchildren, Christine (Brian) Mohr, Mark (Melissa) Polk, Karla (Art) St. Germain, Megan Polk, Isaac Lasley, Catherine Staab, John (Sally) Staab, Audrey (Michael) Spurgeon, Olivia Staab, Daniel Staab, Jesse (Lauren Walters) Staab, Elijah and Isabelle Staab, Elizabeth and Courtney Staab, Paul (Dustin Harmony) Staab III, Lauren, Peter and Parker Staab, Hillary (Jared) Casey, Benjamin Slusser, Meredith (Shay Laager) Slusser, Jayne Burton, Erin and Mark Staab II, Collin (Kristian) Smith, Kalee Rhodes, and Maria and Anthony Palazzolo; numerous great-grandchildren; five sisters, Florence Gabriel of Gainesville, FL, Mary Bilyeu of Springfield, Dlma (J.B.) Neal of Tulsa, OK, Janet (Bill) Swartzendruber of Goshen, IN, Nancy (Crystal Ferreira) Reichart of Broken Arrow, OK, and brother, Richard Reichart of Clearwater, FL; sister-in law, Sue Chandler Reichart Sever of Long Beach, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Belitz; and brothers, James, Charles, Bernard, and Robert Reichart.

Jean was a longtime, active parishioner of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was a member of the Cathedral Council of Catholic Women and received the 2019 Woman of Distinction Award. She loved to cook for her family. Gathering around the table for evening and Sunday meals made her happy. Jean baked banana bread for her grandson’s Boy Scout troop for many of their campouts. She was small, yet resilient. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Jean was welcoming and inclusive, putting her faith into action.

Jean graduated from Foutch School, a one room schoolhouse, New Berlin High School in 1950 and St. John’s School of Nursing in 1953.  She was co-owner of Staab Funeral Home with her husband Paul, brothers-in-law, George and Vincent and sisters-in-law, Marie and Catherine Staab for many years.

The Staab family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, John, Betty, Marsha, Sharon, and Wendy, HSHS St. John’s Hospice and Heart and Hands.

A private family visitation will be held.
