Janice Lynn Herman, 61, of Athens, died at 5:33 pm, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born September 25, 1955 in Louisville, KY. She married Charles “Tom” Herman on June 23, 1984.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dortha Hilton; two brothers, Gerald and Kenneth Hilton and one sister, Doris Shaheen.

Janice was previously from the Riverton area. She retired from SIU School of Medicine on April 30, 2011. She was a past member of the Springfield Jaycees, enjoyed camping, crappie fishing and her two dogs, Zoey and Sophie.

Surviving are her husband, Tom of Athens; one daughter, Lisa J. (Harvey) Daniels of Cantrall; one son, James Michael Robinson of Springfield; two step-sons, Thomas Herman of Montrose, PA and William (Rachel) Herman of Spaulding; four grandchildren, Kayla, Logan, and Leah Daniels and Elizabeth Herman; one sister, Karen Sue (Bob) McKinney of Springfield; one brother, Marvin (Vickie) Hilton, Jr. of Hartsburg, IL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield with Vaughn Beeman officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Animal Protective League.
