Jane M. Benson, 94, of Sherman, died at 11:45 pm Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Vonderleith Living Center in Mt. Pulaski. She was born in Chicago, IL at home on February 14, 1920 the fifth child and second to survive of Arthur Andrew Shogren and Bessie Brown Shogren. She graduated from Sullivan High School in Chicago of which she was proud to say, the Senator Charles Percy was in her school. Jane married Russell Neil Benson in 1945 and they lived in Chicago until 1957 when they moved to Palatine, IL.
Jane retired from CF Industries in Long Grove in 1999 and moved to Sherman, IL.
She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Weatherford of Sherman, IL and a grandson, Glenn Ehren Weatherford (Alaina), two delightful great-grandchildren Ava Weatherford and Glenn Wesley Weatherford all of Ottawa, Illinois. She is also survived by a niece, Suzanne (Peter) Coe of Colorado, her daughters Krista and Kimberly and a nephew James (Carol) Shogren of California.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in 1975, her brother, Arthur and her parents and a great-granddaughter, Maryelle Joy Weatherford in 2011.
She has adamantly requested no services. Please donate to Memorial Hospice, Ronald McDonald House Charities, or to Vonderleith Living Center in Mt. Pulaski where Jane spent her last days.
Jane loved Frank Sinatra and the musical Les Miserables. So, listen to one of the songs from either of them and have her favorite drink, a gin and tonic with no lime or some peppermint ice cream if you don’t drink, in her memory.
