James W. Reuther, 86, of Springfield, died at 6:14 am on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Mill Creek. He was born October 22, 1930 in Effingham, IL to Jacob Reuther and Oma Fern Eaton Gaertner. He married Shirley Woodrome on February 19, 1955 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Barbara Ann Reuther (companion: Lee Daugherty) of Springfield; one son, James “Greg” Reuther of Hillsboro, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step father Tony Gaertner.
James was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Agnes Church. He was a member of Automotive Trades Association as past president and American Legion Post #32. He loved to play golf, fish and work on stained glass. He was co-owner of Illini Glass for 24 years in Springfield and Litchfield.
Visitation: 9 – 10 am Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Agnes Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery where Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
