SPRINGFIELD – James Virgil Lane, 92, of Springfield died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Kappa, the son of Thomas C. and Opal Marie Cobb Lane.
He married Dorothy C. Coulter on June 10, 1939; she preceded him in death, and he later married Dorothy Stine.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy Coulter Lane; two sisters, Marie Lane and Mildred Grubb; and a daughter, Sharon Louise Surratt in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stine-Lane of Springfield; a daughter, Sheila Marie (husband, Richard S.) Helmuth of Irving, Texas; a stepdaughter, Marcia (husband, Charlie) Hare of Helotes, Texas; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Theobald of Springfield and Vera Simpson of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was bookkeeper for Capitol Plumbing and Heating for 31 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church. He was a member of 500 Lodge Masonic, Elks Lodge BPOE158 and Travelers Protective Association. He graduated from Brown’s Business College.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with Dr. John Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
