James O. Porter, 73, of Springfield, IL passed away at 1:30 pm, Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice. Jim was born September 5, 1942 in Springfield, the son of James L. and Oleta Irwin Porter.
Jim sold fishing bait and tackle in Springfield for over 55 years at Jim’s Bait and Tackle and then at Jim’s Rod-N-Reel.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda, daughters Schelli (Derrick) Baker and Teri (Brad) Gentry, five grandchildren: Corey, Ryon, Miranda, Tubby, and Roxie, his special fur babies Sophie, Benji and Dude, and his first great-grandchild due in October.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and nephews.
Jim will be missed more than anyone will ever know by his family, friends and customers.
In honor of his wishes, Jim will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services.
