SPRINGFIELD – James M. Derrick, 76, a resident of Springfield since 1969, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at his home.
He was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Pittsburgh, the son of James and Lucille Derrick. He married his first wife, LaVerne Lynch, on June 16, 1953; she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1981. He then married Patricia C. Cartwright on May 21, 1982. His parents and stepdaughter, Kimberly Badali, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Derrick was president of Record Systems Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Christ the King Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, and a member and founder of ISDA Business Trade Organization. He was a great reader and loved to play golf, socialize and travel.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia C. Derrick; three daughters, Rejeanne (husband, Tony) Smaniotto of Chicago, Renee (Michael) Lopata of Chandler, Ariz., Evonne Derrick of Springfield; three sons, James (wife, Kathleen Knoerl) Derrick of Piedmont, Matthew (wife, Susan) Derrick of San Francisco and Dean (wife, Nicole) Derrick of Springfield; stepson, David Barrow of Springfield; son-in-law, Robert Badali; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Christ the King Church, with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Catholic Charities.
