James (Jim) L. Carroll, 76 of Springfield, died at 10:44 pm, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at his home. He was born December 20, 1933 in Jerseyville, Illinois to John C. and Garneitta Havlin Carroll. He married Sandra K. Bumgarner on July 28, 1979 and she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters; Cheryl C. Carroll of Springfield, Jayne Lynn (David) Morrill of Greenwood, Indiana and Kristy K. (Kenny) Morrison of Riverton; four grandchildren; Hiliary Marsh, Joshua D. (Christina) Morrison, Jason R. Morrison and Jacob Morrison and one great granddaughter; Claire.
Jim was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Presbyterian Faith. He was a member of DAV; past member of De Molay in Jerseyville; Police Benevolent Society; Friday Morning Breakfast Retirement Group at King Pin. Jim was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa and was happiest caring for, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed time on the computer and always had a good joke to share. He retired after 37 years of service from the Springfield Police Department where he worked as a supervisor.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Staa Funeral Home
Funeral: 12:00 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Steven J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
