James "Jim" E. Bowsher

January 8, 1931 - September 26, 2021

James “Jim” E. Bowsher, 90, of Sherman, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born January 8, 1931, in Springfield, the son of Franklin and Lula Mae (Wilkens) Bowsher. He married Edith M. Patterson on November 6, 1954 and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Janice Danosky of Manchester, TN and Theresa (Phillip) Brown of Elkhart; three sons, Steve (Valentina) Bowsher of Cape Coral, FL, Jim Bowsher of Sherman, and Gary (Nicole) Bowsher of Chatham; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two brothers, Robert LeRoy (Joyce) Bowsher of Grand Junction, CO and Samuel (Ann) Bowsher of Edinburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Bowsher; one sister, Louella Hammond; and one daughter, Susan Horrighs.

Jim was a resident of Sherman and Springfield most of his life. He was an active member of New Beginnings Apostolic Church. Jim worked as a roofer for Local Union #112 and retired after 50 years of service. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a proud supporter of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, volunteering at many of the return landings and dinners.

Jim belonged to Country Gamblers Dance Club. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandkids play sports.

Visitation: 2:00 – 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Monday, October 4, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Greg Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings Apostolic Church or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
