CHATHAM – James Jim A. Jansen, 62, of Chatham died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Springfield, the son of Edward and Frieda Gand Jansen. He married Nita Nail on May 25, 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Jansen.
Mr. Jansen was owner and manager of Jansen’s Food Market in Southern View for many years and retired from the state of Illinois. Jim was a former scout leader. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed ballroom dancing and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, Nita Jansen of Chatham
a daughter, Teri (fiance, Brian Kerr) McCullough of Belleville; a son, Brian (Kari) Jansen of Nashville, Tenn.; two grand dogs, Xochi and Sammy; a sister, Fran Jansen-Justison of Springfield; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Jansen of Springfield; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Jane Nail of Litchfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Milton Bost officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Illinois Army National Guard.
Memorials to the Boy Scouts of America, American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
