James J. Wayne, 37 of Springfield, died at 1:16 am, Monday, November 21, 2022 at his home. He was born July 18, 1985 in Springfield, to Rachael Sacco and Steven Smith.
Survivors include his fiancé, Stephanie White and her son, Logan; mother, Rachael (Phil) Ellenburg of Springfield; father, Steven (Cathleen) Smith of Springfield; siblings, Alex (Ashley Gustin) Kluge of Belleville, Summer (James) DeRosa of Springfield, Zak (Ellen Beckwith) Wayne of Springfield and Elizabeth (Brad) Ferill-Stone; grandmother, Linda Sacco of Gulf Shores, AL; two aunts, Chris (Brett) Jenkins and Jamie Sacco and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeramy M. Wayne; grandpa James Sacco and great grandparents, Edith and Virgil Neal.
James retired from the US Army as a Military Technician. He loved riding his Harley and bowling as a league member at King Pin. He was a member of Sangamon County Rescue Squad and VFW 10302.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Friday, December 2, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW 10302 on Stockyard Road immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Street Veterans Renaissance.

My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones of James. I knew him from the time he served in the Human Resources Office at Camp Lincoln. During my time there we would talk often about his love for his family and friends. My prayers for God's peace to be with you during this time of bereavement.
