James J. Rapps, 70, of Springfield, IL, died at 10:32 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 3, 1940 in Springfield, IL to John H. “Jack” and Eileen V. Doyle Rapps, Sr.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law, Wayne Harris and several aunts and uncles.
Surviving James are his daughter, Vicki (Mike) Stehn of Springfield; his son, Jim (Tia) Rapps of Springfield; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sarah; two sisters, Karen Harris and Mary (Kirk) Dyson both of Springfield; one brother, John H. (Janet) Rapps Jr. of Springfield; companion, Linda Jones of Springfield; two aunts; one uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Rapps was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Printers Local 32M. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He served in the US Marine Corp and was in the Reserves for several years. He retired from Schnepp and Barnes Printers.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Peter Harman officating.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
