James “Hoppy” Lee Hopkins, 86, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home. He was born December 22, 1926 in Farmington, MO, to Earl and Marie Gertz Hopkins. He married Evelyn Goad in 1946 and she preceded him in death on September 30, 1988. He married Donna Eigemann on April 15, 1989 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2010.
His parents; one son, Randy Hopkins and one brother, Everett Hopkins also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Ron Hopkins of Tremont and Jim (Motomi) Hopkins of McKinney, TX; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one step-daughter, Teresa Stark of Springfield; two step-sons, Bo Goveia of Springfield and William (Kimberly) Goveia of Peoria and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
James was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge; Ansar Shrine; Scottish Rite; Blue Ridge Club and was a Boy Scout leader for more than 55 years. He always enjoyed helping others in any way that he could.
He retired from CILCO where he worked for over 40 years as a lineman.
Visitation: 3-5 pm Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Private graveside services will be help at Roselawn Memorial Park with Reverend Michael Paulson officiating.
