James Arnold Hofstetter Jr.

October 5, 1926 - July 13, 2015

James Arnold Hofstetter, Jr., 88 of Springfield, died at 9:58 am, Monday, July 13, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born October 5, 1926 in Sparta to James Arnold and Blanche Guittar Hofstetter, Sr. He married Enid Rose on February 1, 1962 and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Anne (Gregory) Clemons; one son, James Arnold Hofstetter III both of Springfield; one step-daughter, Wanda (Richard) King of Oakford; grandson, Austin Clemons; step-grandchildren, Ronda Tippitt, Jason King, Christopher Clemons, Jennifer Clemons, Jamie (Terry) Fair and Nichole (Brett) Johnson; one brother, Robert (Juanita) Hofstetter; one sister in law, Sylvia Hofstetter both of Salem and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents and one brother, George “Bud” Hofstetter.

James graduated in 1952 from the University of Missouri with a Master’s degree in Engineering. He served in the 11th Airborne with United States Army during WWII. He was a Civil Engineer owning and operating Hofstetter and Associates Engineering firm. He was very proud of the projects he worked on as project manager, including the Miami International Airport, AT&T Cross Country Underground Relay System, Escape Hatch for one of the Space Shuttles and Hubley Bridge in Mason County. James was also a member of Cathedral Church of St. Paul, American Legion Post 32, ASCE and was a member Racket and Fitness Center for many years.

Memorial Gathering: 9-11 am, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 S. 2nd Street, Springfield.

Memorial Service: 11 am, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Cathedral Church of St. Paul with Reverend Andrew Hook officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
