SPRINGFIELD – Jacob O. Hinds, 79, of Springfield died at 8:52 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Lanesville Township, the son of Fred and Wilhelmina Hild Hinds. He married Charlotte Bolt on Feb. 15, 1958.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Day and Esther Hinds; and a brother, John Hinds.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Springfield; two daughters, Vickie (Ron) Dye of Springfield and Diane (Rick) Northcutt of Glen Carbon; four grandchildren, Steph Dye of St. Louis, Matt Dye of Springfield and Ryan and Jenna Northcutt of Glen Carbon; and several nieces and nephews.
Jacob was a resident of Springfield for most of his life. He retired from Bunn-O-Matic Corporation as a warehouse foreman.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed restoring old cars, was an avid sports and NASCAR watcher and loved pets.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
