Riverton – Jack F. Rader, 69, of Riverton, died at 10:48 A.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 27, 1942 in Springfield, IL to Albert F. and Elmyra M. Ishmael Rader. He married Patsy R. Smith on June 9, 1963 and she survives.
Jack is also survived by one son, Tom (Mary Kay) Rader of Riverton; one daughter, Michelle (John Hankins) Rader of Spaulding; three grandchildren, Jacob Tanner, Danielle Rader, and Chloe Lewis; one sister, Shirley (Jim) Langston of Sharps Chapel, TN; mother-in-law, Lena Smith of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Donna Smith and Cindy (Perry Reeves) Smith both of Springfield; one brother-in-law, Thomas E. (Susan) Smith of Oak Park; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Thomas Smith.
Jack attended Third Presbyterian Church where he had previously served as deacon and taught Sunday School. He was a member of IBEW Local 51 since 1963 and belonged to Riverton Lavely Masonic Lodge #786. He formerly worked part-time for the Riverton Police Department, served as Riverton Volunteer Fire Department Chief, served as Emergency Disaster and Preparedness Coordinator for Village of Riverton, as well as serving four years as a Trustee for the Village of Riverton. He was a past assistant Scout Master for Troop 22, was a member of the Order of the Arrow and a member of the American Morgan Horse Association. Jack was also a member of the United States Navy. He graduated from Lanphier High School in 1960. He was a Journeyman/Lineman and worked for Riverton as the Foreman of the Electric Department.
Visitation: 4-7 P.M. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Masonic services at 6:45 P.M.
Funeral Service: 11 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Chaplain Marty Nagel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Research Fund or the Field of Dreams in Riverton or Riverton Area Fire Protection District.
