SPRINGFIELD – Ivan R. Cassidy, 80, of Springfield, Illinois left this life at 4:08 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice. He was born September 30, 1929, in Witt, Illinois, to Albert and Velma Durbin Cassidy. His parents and 2 brothers, Bill and Ed Cassidy preceded him in death.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Jane (Jim) Heid of Weekie Wachee, FL, Janet Cassidy of Springfield and JoAnn (Mark) Ragland of Chatham; 1 son, Jim (Kay) Cassidy of Nokomis; 8 grandchildren, Jim, Curt, Alison, Ashley, Seth, Shannon, Zach and Patrick; 5 great-grandchildren, Lexi, Hunter, Hayden, Lucy and Gracie; 3 brothers, Harold Cassidy of Levittown, PA, Jim (Joanne) Cassidy of Alton, IL and Don (Lonnie) Cassidy of Osage Beach, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ivan was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, and a member of Church of the Little Flower. He graduated high school at the age of 12 and worked for Cook Portable Warehouses where he was a manager. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandkids. He was very dedicated to Little Flower and keeper of the church.
A private visitation will be held for Ivan’s family. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Church of the Little Flower, with Monsignor John Ossola officating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
