Ira W. Allen, 94, of Springfield, died at 3:32 pm, Friday, April 21, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1922 in Springfield to Ira and Charlotte (Goodpasture) Allen. He married Marguerite Kother on November 19, 1946.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Marguerite of Springfield; two daughters, Gail (Robert) Hill of Collinsville and Linda Bryant of Springfield; three granddaughters, Stephanie Schnepper, Nicole Soehnlin and Heather (Aaron) Barnett and eight great grandchildren, Nicolas, Zachary, Noah and Lauren Schnepper, Caden and Tylar Soehnlin and Cash and Jude Barnett.
Ira was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. He retired from the United States Postal Service and also had worked as a butcher. Ira loved fishing and woodcarving and was a great conversationalist.
Memorial Gathering: 10:30 – 11:30 am, Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Memorial Service: 11:30 am, Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.

My Great Grandpa came to all of my veteran days at first-fifth grade. He was the best Great Grandpa. I will miss him.
