CHATHAM – Inez Marie Patterson, 93, of Chatham died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at her home.
She was born July 29, 1914, in Eldred, the daughter of William S. and Abbie Lenora Pointer Taylor. She married Edward Gowdy Patterson on Feb. 23, 1932; he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1981. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Walter Dean Patterson and Edward F. Patterson; a daughter, Nina June Berendes; three sisters, Mildred Meyer, Doris Retherford and Martha Henneberg; a brother, Dean Taylor; and a granddaughter, Nancy Berendes.
Mrs. Patterson, a Springfield area resident since 1942, was a sales associate for 20 years at Sears, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Chatham Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and Chatham Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading and fishing. She always spent as much time as possible with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Surviving are a son, Robert K. (wife, Linda) Patterson of Riverton; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (wife, Patricia) Taylor of Heathsville, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, with Pastor Rick Wenneborg officiating. Burial will be in Pinetree Cemetery in Patterson.
