AUBURN – Hilda E. Kovalik, 88, of Auburn, went peacefully to be with the Lord at 9:35 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born February 9, 1921, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, the daughter of Gustav and Augusta Luka Kaczinski. She married Jack E. Kovalik on July 8, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tom in 1995; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Kovalik had been a resident of Springfield since 1923, and Auburn since 2004. She was employed by Allis Chalmers for seven years, Sangamo Electric for five years and was a waitress at the Mill and a homemaker.
She was a member of First Church of God.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Kovalik of Auburn; a daughter, Carol (Bruce) Lawson of Chicago; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Kovalik of Winfield; a son, Ken (Ann) Kovalik of Newtown, Penn.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a half sister, Alfreda Curtis of Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home and will lie in state from 10 a.m. until time of services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at First Church of God with the Reverend Jay Kroft officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God.
