Henry V. Fanale, 88.9, of Riverton died at 11:49 p.m., on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 29, 1921 in Riverton, the son of Isadore and Mary Nunzia Fanale. He married his wife of 63 years Anna D’Andrea on October 4, 1947 and she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters: Flora, Caroline and Margaret.
He is survived by his wife Anna Fanale, 1 daughter: Nadia (Lawrence) Fernandez of Raytown, MO, 2 grandchildren: Lorenzo and Gabriella Fernandez, 1 sister: Mary “Gilda” Antonacci of Springfield and many nieces and cousins.
Henry was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. He took part in the Omaha Beach D-Day+4 Invasion, St. Louis Breakthrough, Pine River Crossing, the Battle of the Bulge and served in the Ardennes Forest. He was a member of St. James Church in Riverton where he was active with helping with funeral luncheons. He was a member of Polk of A, the Knights of Columbus Council of Riverton, the 30th Infantry Division Old Hickory Association. He loved gardening, tending to his roses and watching his birds. He enjoyed art and painting, classical music and spending time with his family.
He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service Administration for 30 years retiring in 1983. Henry was the most loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. James Church in Riverton with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
