Helen Marie Steele, 91, of Buffalo died on Friday May 24, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born November 21, 1921 in Springfield, IL to Lambert P. and Helena M. Burg Fleck. Helen married Harold E. “Hoy” Steele on February 13, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 3, 2003. Also preceding her in death are her parents; five sisters, Edith Fields, Irene Fleck, Amelia Fleck, Leona Bakken, and Dolores Patrick and four brothers, Karl, Henry, Raymond and Lambert Fleck.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Toale of Springfield; three sons, Lambert (Margaret) Steele of Buffalo, Bob (Janet) Steele of Riverton and Tom (Celeste) Steele of Athens; five grandchildren, Amy (Randy) Townsell, Mike (Kerry) Steele, J.R. Steele, Alecia Steele, and Stephanie Steele; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cody Townsell, and Madeline Steele; a sister, Cecelia Peters of New Berlin; two brothers, George (Patricia) Fleck of Sherman and Fred (Teeny) Fleck of Riverton and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Helen was a member of St. James Church in Riverton and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Tri City High School for seventeen years.
Visitation: 8:30 – 10:00 am Tuesday May 28, 2013 at St. James Church in Riverton.
Funeral Mass: 10 am Tuesday May 28, 2013 at St. James Church in Riverton with Reverend Raphael Paul DeMoreno officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. James Church in Riverton.
