Helen M. Hartmann, 90 of Springfield formerly of Mt. Sterling died at 5:35 am, Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Villa East Health Care Center in Sherman. She was born September 13, 1920, the daughter of James and Mary Dunn. She married Carl J. Hartmann in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Hartmann was a resident of Springfield since 1938. She was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later by the State of Illinois as their Chief Telephone Operator for 22 years. She retired in 1984. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a former member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and American Business Women’s Association and received the Business Woman of the year award
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law: Marsha Rader of Springfield and Kay (husband, Dan Coffey) Hartmann, of New Buffalo, MI, five sisters: Betty Sowarsh, Joan (husband Andrew) Forgas, Eleanor Novotnak, Dorothy (husband Wilbur) Neuman all of Springfield and Regina (husband William) Welch of Glen Carbon. Marcella Dahlkamp, a sister preceded her in death. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Visitation: 4-7pm, Sunday May 15, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home, with prayers at 4pm.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 am Monday May, 16, 2011 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Peter Harman officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
