Helen M. Gantt, 93, of Dawson, died at 9:25 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born November 29, 1918 in Springfield, IL to William and Marie Robinson Heinrich. She married Clarence L. “Chub” Gantt on March 2, 1940 and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2003. She is also preceded in death by her father; mother and step father, Marie and Chester “Babe” Kitchen; one brother, William; her beloved sister-in-law, Lucille Heinrich and brother-in-law, Jim Hiser.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Highley of Dawson; three grandchildren, Tami Matthews of Dawson; Chris (Lisa) Highley of Dawson; and Tara (Bill) Dombroski of Dawson; six great grandchildren, Luke, Lindsay, Blake, Josh, Nathan and Kirsten; one sister, Bea Hiser of St. Joseph, IL.; one brother Bob Heinrich of Clinton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was a member of Dawson Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and worked during World War II at the Illiopolis Munitions Plant. She loved camping, watching her soap operas and Dancing with the Stars.
Graveside Service: 12 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Chris McAfee officiating.
