Helen G. Stewart, 88, of Springfield, died at 6:41 pm, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born January 8, 1928 in Bonne Terre, MO, to Gus and Hallie Wills. She married Elwood Stewart on December 20, 1947 and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth (Doug) Carswell of Riverton, Patricia (James) Lynch of Williamsville and Nancy (Mike Ruyle) Tannehill of Palm Bay, FL; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and one great great grandson; two sisters, Louise Marvin of St. Louis, MO and Dolores (Louie) Tidd of St. Charles, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Mary Glenn and two brothers, Bill and Jack Wills.
Helen was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church and BAG “Basement Art Group” Ladies. She loved arts and ceramics and enjoyed being a mentor at Kumler after school program and taught Sunday school at Springfield Southern Baptist Church. She previously served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of TOPS club.
She was a homemaker and had worked at various jobs, included nursing, data entry for Public Aid and worked for the City Directory and at a Day Care as well has a Home Day Care.
Visitation: 9 – 10:30 am, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Lonnie Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of the Donor’s choice or to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
