Helen F. Wernsing, 84, of Springfield passed away at 2:05 pm Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born August 17, 1929 in Flora, IL to Grover and Cora Beduhn Shinefield. She married Paul Wernsing and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Ruth Britz and Eloise Amburg and two brothers, Eugene and Paul Shinefield.
Surviving are her three sons, Paul II and Philip (Lori), Wernsing both of Springfield and Patrick (companion, Bev) Wernsing of Arizona; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Paige, Megan and Jeffrey and two nieces.
Helen was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She worked at AT&T, Black Hawk Elementary as a playground supervisor and was also a homemaker. She belonged to American Legion Post #32 Ladies Auxiliary and was a St. Louis Cardinals Fan.
Memorial Gathering: 10-11:30 am Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Memorial Mass: 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeffrey Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Blessed Sacrament Church, St. John’s Hospice, American Legion Post #32 or charity of donor’s choice.

Paul, Phil and Pat - I am so sorry to learn of the death of your mom. She was always so nice to me growing up. I will always remember her warm and friendly smile.
