SPRINGFIELD: Helen F. Herren, age 93 of Springfield, formally of Winchester and Jacksonville, died Monday, February 22, 2010 at The Regency.
She was born March 5, 1916 in Scott County near Winchester, the daughter of Albert and Grace O’Donnell-Hamilton; stepdaughter of Oliver and Sarah Flynn after her parents’ death. Helen graduated from Winchester High School in 1935.
She married John J. Herren in 1947 in Pueblo, Colorado; he preceded her in death on December 22, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, and great-great granddaughter, Faith Milosavich of Florida.
She was office manager for her husband at Autobody Damage Appraisers in Springfield from 1956 until 1970. She was a clerk for Miss Scarlet’s Women’s Wear and Far & Fancy Gift Shop in Springfield until retirement. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, an avid reader and loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and University of Illinois basketball games.
Survivors: Son, Dick Herren (wife, Jan) of Springfield, a daughter; Sandra Rupp (husband, Carl) of Pueblo, Colorado; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Graves of Pennsylvania and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 am, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with a funeral service at 11:30. Rev John E. Nelson,M.Div., officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
