Hazel M. Tinsley

Hazel Marie Tinsley departed this life on April 10, 2015 at 7:20 am. She came into it January 31, 1921 in Chandlerville, IL, the daughter of Lena Mary Bair and James William Miller, Jr.

She attended Chandlerville schools, graduating in 1938 as class valedictorian. She married Clifton Tinsley of Ashland, IL, where they resided and welcomed sons Philip, Kenneth and Virgil and daughter, Nancy.

The family moved to Springfield, IL, in 1954 where she attended Brown’s Business College and was later employed by the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Commission for Economic Development, retiring in 1985.

She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865.

Surviving are son, Philip (wife Janice DiGirolamo) of Athens, IL; son Virgil (wife Diann) of Clemson, SC; daughter Nancy Frazier (husband Andrew) of Palm Beach, FL; grandchildren: Anne Schuyler Frazier of New York City, NY; Alexander Frazier of New York City; John Hughes (wife, Tara) of Chatham, IL; and Matt Hughes (wife Lisa) of Chatham, IL; Abby Lenhart of Winter Park, FL; Jeff Tinsley of Chagrin Falls, OH; sister Norma Jean Lawyer of Newark, O H; daughter-in-law Barb Tomlinson Tinsley of Winter Park, FL, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother James, a sister B.C. Johnson, husband Clifton and son, Kenneth.

Cremation will be accorded by Staab Funeral Home of Springfield with internment in Ashland Cemetery.
