Hazel D. LeMar Erickson, 97, of Springfield, died at 10:26 am, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born June 9, 1914 in Sangamon Co., IL to Jess and Elsie Jane Garrison LeMar. She married Russell Erickson in 1938 and he preceded her in death in March of 1979.
Also preceding her in death were 3 sisters, Blanche, Dollie and Edith and one brother, Homer LeMar.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen (Ken) Napier of Pickneyville, IL and Jeannette (Steve) Hassebrock of Springfield; son, Russell Douglas Erickson of CA and 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Hazel was a member of First United Methodist Church and an honorary member of Elks Lodge #158. She volunteered at Kumler United Methodist Church Food Pantry and served as an Election Judge for many years. She lived in Springfield since 1928 and worked for the State of Illinois for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
She enjoyed her final years in the company of the caring staff and sisters at St. Joseph’s Home.
Visitation: 9:30-11:00 am, Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Swickard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or St. Joseph’s Home.
