SPRINGFIELD – Harold L. Jenkins, 81, of Springfield died at 3:16 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born June 30, 1927, in Buckhart, the son of Lloyd F. and Ferne Crowder Jenkins. He married Mary Henson on Jan. 16, 1953; she preceded him in death in April 2000.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Reid of California.
He is survived by special longtime friend,
Shirley Vidor; a daughter, Carla (husband, Phil) Houser of Bloomington; a son, John Jenkins (companion, Michele Locke) of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Drew and Audrey Houser; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked at CIPS, retiring after 43 years of service.
He was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and was an Elks Lodge life member. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling with family and friends and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with Dr. Joe Eby officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
