Harold Finis “Ike” Turner, Jr.
SPRINGFIELD – Harold Finis “Ike” Turner, Jr., 79, of Springfield, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at his residence.
He was born September 26, 1927 in Springfield, IL, the son of Harold F. and Lela Harbour Turner, Sr. He married Barbara J. Carman on April 29, 1950; she preceded him in death on March 11, 1977. His parents; two sisters, Eileen Droege and Alberta Thomas; and one brother, Virgil Turner, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Turner worked for Operating Engineers Local 965 as a heavy equipment operator for 49 year. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during WWII, stationed in Peiping, China. He enjoyed gardening and sitting on his front porch. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed going for long drives. When he was younger he enjoyed riding horses.
Survivors: one daughter, Gloria (husband, John) Norgaard of Springfield; two sons, Harold F. (wife, Jean) Turner III of Little Elm, TX and Bill E. Turner of Pawnee; four grandchildren, Harold F. “Eric” (wife, Cassi) Turner IV, Toby Turner, Kortnee Turner, and Johnny Norgaard; two great-grandchildren, Harold F. “Noah” Turner V and Elizabeth Norgaard; one brother, Floyd (wife, Gladys) Turner of Athens; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2007. Services: 9:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2007, Rick Braun officiating. Burial: Walnut Hill Cemetery in Williamsville, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
