Harold E. Sabo, 88, of Springfield, died at 12:45 am, Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born June 10, 1928 in Springfield to George and Elizabeth (Kunz) Sabo. He married Virginia Maxine Pemberton on January 25, 1951 by the Reverend Clink at St. Patrick’s Church and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Paul and Greg; three brothers, George, Johnny and Joe “Sub” and six sisters. Elizabeth, Ann, Marie, Katie, Irene and Dorothy. He is survived by his son, Stephen (Cynthia) Sabo of Pawnee; two granddaughters, Holly and Emily Sabo and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold was a lifelong resident of Springfield. Mr. Sabo retired from the Springfield Fire Department as Division Deputy Chief after 27 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Visitation: 11 am – 12:30 pm Friday, November 4, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12:30 pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
