Harold A. Bennett, 72, of Sherman died at 12:10 am, Friday, August 27, 2010 at his home. He was born August 14, 1938 in Springfield, Illinois to Harry and Florence Hoffert Bennett. He married Gloria Nation on February 1, 1959.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years Gloria Bennett of Sherman; daughter Annette (Don) Drinkwater of Sherman; son Carl Bennett of Sherman; grandchildren Tanya Edwards (fianc Tim Cooley) and Barbra Drinkwater (fianc Travis Charles); great grandson Connor; sisters-in-law Susan Bennett of Cantrall and Viola Bennett of Pekin; brother Ernest (Joyce) Bennett of Buffalo, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, three brothers George, Jim and Harvey and sister Marie Galbraith preceded him in death.
Harold was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Living Faith Baptist Church. He was Past Chief Ranger of Independent Order of Foresters and past Boy Scout Webelos leader. He loved fishing and hunting and was a lifetime member of North America Hunting Club. He was formerly an avid bowler.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 9 am, Tuesday, August 31, 2010 with Pastor Mark Emerson officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
