Hallie L. Whitehead

Hallie L. Whitehead, 86, of Springfield, died at 6:01pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 30, 1931 to Hallie and Alma Whitehead. He married Dorothy Oglebay on May 5, 1999 and she survives.

Also surviving are his four daughters, Dana Turley of Mechanicsburg, Laura Fixsal of Springfield, Cynthia Rachford of Blue Mound, and Annie Rutherford of Springfield; four sons, Lloyd Whitehead of Springfield, Hallie David Whitehead of Loami, Mark Whitehead of Elgin, MO, and Franklin Whitehead of Longleyville; two aunts; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth Ellen Whitehead; three daughters, Sheryl Skinner, Lafonda (Fern) Bayer, and Colleen Smitty, and one sister, Virginia Dawson.

Hallie was a resident of Mechanicsburg for forty years and Springfield for twenty-five years. He retired from the military, servicing in the Army and Air Force branches. He served during the Korean War in 1952-53.

He is a Past Commander of the VFW Post 755 and life time member of the VFW Northenders Post 10302.

Family will be hosting a graveside service at 2 pm, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
