Guy E. Sorenson, Jr., 80, of Springfield passed away at Lewis Memorial Christian Village on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 5:45 pm. He was born May 12, 1936, in Peoria, IL to Guy and Ruth Prescott Sorenson, Sr. Guy married Sally A. Raney on January 8, 1955 and she preceded him in death, June 25, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Christine Sorenson and daughter in law, Debra.
Guy is survived by his daughter, Cara Dukes of Springfield; five sons, Wendell E. (Cheryl) Sorenson of Houston, TX, Daniel V. (Janet) Sorenson of Lake St. Louis, MO, Jerome M. Sorenson of Danville, IL, Timothy A. (Michelle) Sorenson and Christopher E. Sorenson, both of Springfield; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa (Bob) Rhoades of Springfield; brother, Bob (Helen “Mickey”) Sorenson of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Sorenson retired from the maintenance department of District 186. He was an avid sports fan who loved the St. Louis, Cardinals, and the Fighting Illini.
Memorial Gathering: 11 am – 1 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Dr. R. Richard Tribble, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at New Masonic Cemetery in Potosi, MO at a later date.
