SPRINGFIELD – Gordon Thornburgh, 95, of Springfield died at 2 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Springfield, the son of Andrew and Mildred Cline Thornburgh. He married M. Elizabeth McDonough on May 26, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, George.
Mr. Thornburgh, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was a route salesman for Amrhein Bakery, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 16 and a member of Central Baptist Church for 80 years.
Surviving are his wife, M. Elizabeth Thornburgh of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Brenda Thornburgh of Springfield; son, Paul (wife, Marilyn) Thornburgh of Springfield; five grandchildren, Lynn (husband, Andrew) Barkley, Bob (wife, Theresa) Thornburgh, Phillip (wife, Tonia) Thornburgh, Justin (wife, Mae) Thornburgh and Joshua Thornburgh; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Coe of Sherman and Florence Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.
