Gordon E. "Gordy" Longhta

Gordon “Gordy” E. Longhta, 76, of Chatham, died at 10:35 pm, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born December 25, 1937 in Springfield, to Roy B. and Hazel (Schultz) Longhta, Sr. He married Margaret A. Weller on April 23, 1960, and she survives.

He is survived by one daughter, Sheryl (Keith) Glynn and a son, Steven (Karie) Longhta, both of Chatham; four grandchildren: Jake, Zach, Josh and Luke Longhta; two step-grandchildren: Brad and Tyler (Emily) Glynn; one step great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; one sister, Norma (John) Roberts of Springfield and one brother, Roy B. (Tove) Longhta, Jr. of Pinehurst, NC, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He served in the U.S. Air Guard. He worked as a Lobbyist and Executive Director of the Illinois Railroad Association, he formerly worked for the Illinois Inspection Bureau and Tax Payers Federation of Illinois. Upon retirement, he became a master gardener, was an avid woodworker and enjoyed cooking and baking.

Gathering: 9-11 am, Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Memorial Service: 11 am, Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Father Gene Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
