Gloria A. (McGregor) Barnes, 92, of Springfield, IL, died Friday, January 26, 2018, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL.

She was born on February 23, 1925 in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of Bertrum and Anna (Gamel) McGregor. She married Ross P. Barnes, Jr. on February 12, 1944 in Sacramento, CA. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2007, after 64 years of marriage. Her mother, father, one brother, Bertrum, and one sister, Delma Wilson, preceded her in death.

Gloria retired as a legal secretary at James W. Sanders & Associates, Attorneys at Law in Marion, IL. Prior to that she was a secretary for United States Senator Charles Percy of Illinois and a secretary in the Illinois House of Representatives. Gloria served as President of the Women’s Club of Johnston City, IL. She enjoyed reading, crafts, camping and belonged to Good Sam’s Camping Club. She was a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.

Survivors: Janet (husband, Dennis) Strader of St. Louis, MO; Bonnie (husband, Larry) Johnsen of Geneseo, IL; Kathy (husband, Ed) Schultz of Springfield, IL. Grandchildren: Michele (Strader) (husband, Mike) Maruska; Larry (wife, Sarah) Johnsen, Jr., Tracey (Johnsen) (husband, Tom) Wise, Rebecca McGuire. Great-grandchildren: Michael Maruska, Taylor (Wise) (husband, Grant) DeSplinter; Anna Wise; Kyle Wise; Lauren Johnsen, Luke Johnsen. Great –great grandchildren: Tanner DeSplinter and Weston DeSplinter. Two nieces and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to Sunny Acres Nursing Home or to a charity of donor’s choice.

Private family services will be at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Garden in Fairview Heights, IL.
