Gloria A. Clark, affectionately known as “Big Red”, 83, of Springfield died at 8:26 pm Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born April 18, 1929 in Springfield, IL to George J. and Sally Coles King. She was preceded in death by her husband David W. Clark in 1993; brother, George J. “Jimmie” King, and mother and stepfather Sally and Bill Nelson.
Surviving are her son, Michael L. Ruschmeyer of Des Arc, AR; companion, John Spring; grandchildren, Billy (Heather) Sherell and Alexa Elizabeth Ruschmeyer; two great grandchildren, Colton William Sherell and Calleigh Rae Sherell; niece, Sandra King; nephew, Jimmy King; friend and caregiver, Cindy Bonner and her canine companion, Ellie.
Gloria was a resident of Springfield all of her life. She was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church. She worked at Sangamo Electric for 26½ years and retired from the Springfield Police Department after 19½ years. Gloria was always on the go. She loved to travel, most recently to Alaska and Branson, MO. Most importantly, she loved her family and grandchildren and the time spent together was cherished.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Monday, February 11, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Keppler officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
