GIRARD – Glen Thomas Ace Meeker, 78, of Girard, formerly of Springfield, went to the bike shop in the sky at 8:55 a.m. Sunday morning, Oct. 19, 2008.
He was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Springfield to Glen and Dorothy Rock Meeker. He was first married to Patricia Howard; they divorced and he married Opal Wells. She preceded him in death. He then married Dona Perry Nolting on March 6, 1974, in Springfield.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Hardy; and a daughter, Terry Benhart.
He is survived by his wife, Dona Meeker of Girard; his children, George (wife, Pam) Hardy of Jacksonville, N.C., Tom (wife, Pam) Marsh of Springfield, Rick (wife, Katie) Nolting of Phoenix, Timothy (wife, Stacey) Meeker of Goodyear, Ariz., Sandy (husband, Mark) Severns of Springfield, Ronnie Meeker of Sherman, Cheryl (husband, Kevin) Havrilka of Chatham, Kathy (husband, Dick) Huddleston of Hettick, Pete (wife, Nancy) Meeker of Springfield and Lisa (husband, Daniel) Winkler of Centerville, Tenn. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (wife, Judy) Meeker of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ace was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed boating, camping, wintering in Texas, collecting records, and his two cats. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He owned and operated ACE Bike Shop in Springfield since 1957.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with Robert Green officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ace may be made to the Girard Rescue Squad or VNA Hospice Care of Illinois.
