Gladys F. Woods, 88, of Springfield, died at 1:55 am, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Hospice Unit at St. John’s Hospital. She was born January 1, 1923 in Petersburg, IL to Perry and Della Wiseman Nolting. She married Jesse J. Woods on December 20, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1984.
Gladys was a wonderful mother to son, Gary (Linda) Woods of Pittsfield and daughter Linda (Roger) Schildman of Springfield. She had a very special place in her heart for each of her grandchildren; Greg Woods of Detroit, IL, Roger Schildman of New Berlin, Tadd Woods of Highland Ranch, CO, Jessica Schildman of Springfield, Megan (Ben) Eagleson of Olney, Russell Schildman of Springfield and Dr. Kendra Woods of Pittsburgh, PA. Her pride and joy were her three great grandchildren; Melanie Woods and Eric and James Schildman.
She especially enjoyed collecting depression glass and bears, running to flea markets and garage sales and tending to her tulip garden.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Ira James “Jimmy” Collins, five sisters and four brothers; Ala Mae Minder, Ada Marie Nolting, Anna Treseler, Clarence Nolting, Elsie Peace, Ernest Nolting, Alice Nolting, Carl Nolting and Lynn Nolting.
Along with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by two sisters Bernice Sutton of Delavan and Viola (Charles) Nance of Petersburg.
Visitation: 4-7 pm Friday, May 13, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12:30 pm, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Cindy Lash, West Side Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Petersburg, IL.
