Giovanna Antonacci, 96, of Springfield, IL, died at 1:09 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born on December 23, 1914 in Castelvechio Calvisio P. L’aquila, Italy to Vince and Domenica Dettorre Ciuffini. She married Ventilio Antonacci on May 8, 1935 in Italy. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1974. Also preceding Giovanna in death are her parents, one infant son, Mario and one grandson Mario.
Surviving are three sons, Vince Antonacci, Angelo (Filomena) Antonacci and Dominic Antonacci all of Springfield; one grandson, Gianni (Sarah) Antonacci of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Elise, Gabriella and Andy Antonacci; several cousins and several great cousins.
Giovanna enjoyed gardening, was active in her church, was a faithful prayer of the rosary. She also was an avid reader, spent much of her time with her family-especially her great grandchildren and enjoyed watching General Hospital and One Life to Live.
She has been a resident of Springfield since 1958 and became a homemaker. She formerly lived in Italy where she farmed.
Visitation: 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend David Hoefler officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospice.
