Gilbert H. Riemann, 96, of Springfield, died at 2:35am on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Bickford House. He was born on January 15, 1922 in Farmersville, IL to Henry and Martha (Cutter) Riemann. He married Mary Rebecca Schnirring in June 1955 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2017.
Survivors include two nieces; Janice (Jim) Meisenheimer of Bunker Hill, IL and Linda Riemann of Columbia, MO, one nephew; Preston (Leetha) Brown of Carlinville, and one sister, Aldena Pluhm of Litchfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers; Harry and Alfred Riemann.
Gilbert was a U.S. Army veteran and he was stationed in Alaska during World War II.
He lived in Springfield most of his life, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He owned Gilbert’s Repair Shop, then retired and later worked for the State of Illinois.
Gilbert enjoyed playing the violin, the banjo, and the guitar, and had a green thumb with his garden. He was active in church, and enjoyed flying planes.
Visitation: 10 am – 11 am on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11 am on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Dr. Thomas Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
