George W. Wallis, 78, of Springfield died at 6:52 am, Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home. He was born March 4, 1933 in Columbia, MO the son of Clifford and Marion Bisbee Wallis. He married Roselyn Adams on November 27, 1964 and she survives. Also surviving are three sons Johnathan (Amanda) Wallis of Ashburn, VA, Christopher (Laura) Wallis of Fox River Grove, IL and George (Angel) Wallis of Bettendorf, IA; 7 grandchildren: Claire, Peter, Lauren, Lydia, Margaret, Timothy and Jillian; one sister Anne Wallis Bull of Waitsfield, VT and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George was a resident of Springfield since February of 1960 and taught at Springfield High School until his retirement in 1994. He was an Army Veteran and formerly sang with the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of the Springfield Education Association and held a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri.
Memorial Gathering: 1-3 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 3 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Ken Hage officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus or Habitat for Hummanity.

I was very sorry to hear about Mr. Wallis' passing. He was a one of a kind instructor with a quick wit and a very sharp mind. I enjoyed his class at SHS and will always remember him as one of my favorite teachers. My prayers go out to his family at this sad time.
