SPRINGFIELD – George E. Lozzi, 89, of Springfield died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Heritage Manor.
He was born May 13, 1919, in Riverton, the son of Rocco and Anna Iocca Lozzi.
He married Florence M. Capranica on July 22, 1950; she preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 2000. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Lozzi; and two sisters, Mary Lozzi and Michalena Woodrome.
Mr. Lozzi had been a resident of Riverton and Springfield all of his life. He retired from Pillsbury Mills after 25 years of service.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and the Grain Millers Local.
Surviving are a daughter, Roseann Chambers of Springfield; a son, George D. (Denise) Lozzi of Sullivan; two grandchildren, Anthony and Rene Lozzi; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at St. Aloysius Church with the Rev. Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military services.
Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Church or its school.
