George C. Higgenbotham
KINCAID – George C. Higgenbotham, 74, of Kincaid, and a resident of Springfield for the past 30 years, died at 1:55 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 7, 1933, in St. Louis, the son of George W. and Lela Phillips Higgenbotham. He married Audrey Easthope on June 22, 1956; she preceded him in death. His parents, a sister and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Mr. Higgenbotham was a pressman for The State Journal-Register for 12 years and worked in the Baptist ministry for 10 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a former member of Lincoln Land Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Sharon (husband, Kenneth) Fears of St. Charles, Mo., Linda (husband, Nathan) Karlen of Alton and Carol (husband, Terrance) Havard of Taylorville; four sons, George and Harry Higgenbotham of Kincaid and John and Michael Higgenbotham, both of Springfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Trower of Kansas City and Virginia (husband, Dennis) Nelson of Piedmont, Mo.; a half sister, Barbara Higgenbotham; and three stepsisters, Sandra, Judy and Sharon; four half brothers, Ted Smith and Tommy, Tony and Terry Higgenbotham; stepbrother, John Carpenter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with Dr. Rod Mattoon officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
