George A. Boehmer

SPRINGFIELD – George A. Boehmer, 90, of Springfield died at 2:31 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at his home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Springfield, the son of John and Catherine Zint Boehmer. He married Anne Jonaitis in 1947; she preceded him in death in 1994. He married Mary Bosso Chestnut in 2002; she preceded him in death in 2003. Also preceding him in death were a son, Joe Chestnut; three brothers, Carl Edward, Carl Joseph and John Carl Boehmer; and two sisters, Marie Boehmer and Frances Turner.

Mr. Boehmer, a lifelong resident of Springfield, retired from Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville as head of housekeeping after 16 years of service and was manager at Kennedy Laundry for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Commander of Catholic War Veterans and was named Man of the Year in 2006. He was a past member of Elks Lodge in Springfield, AMVETS Post 94, Springfield Interveterans Council and a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

Surviving are a sister, Catherine Miller of Springfield; a brother, Robert Boehmer of Springfield; two daughters, Rosemary (husband, Kenneth) Brown and Kay (husband, Gerald) Brown, both of Paris, Tenn.; two sons, Tom (wife, Kim) Chestnut of Saline, Mich., and Mike Chestnut of Paducah, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at St. Aloysius Church with the Rev. Donald Meehling officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
