Genevieve P. “Jeannie” Hanson, 71, of Springfield, died at 11:10 am, Friday, July 15, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born on October 2, 1939 in Springfield to George and Pauline E. Newberry Orme. She married Harley W. Hanson on July 6, 1963 and he preceded her in death on October 28, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one son Gregory Lee Hanson and wife Jill of Nixa, MO, four grandchildren, Bryson Hanson, Cameron Hanson, Whitney Shepherd and Megan Shepherd, one great-granddaughter, Journey, three sisters, Margie Lay of Springfield, Marilyn Hicks and husband Don of Marion and Janice Kidd of Springfield, one sister-in-law, Nellie Hanson of Rochester, her best friend, Francis “Fritz” O’Hare of Riverton, former daughter-in-law, Michelle Hanson of Springfield, MO, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jeannie was a member of Riverton Christian Church, where she was very active. She was an incredible cook and is whipping up a batch of sweet treats in heaven. She enjoyed playing 10,000. Jeannie always had a smile on her face and was always ready to help those she could. She was employed by The Georgian Restaurant and by Marine Bank prior to it becoming Bank One. Jeanie was a lifelong resident of Springfield.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, July 18, 2011 at Riverton Christian Church.
Lie-In-State: 11 am-12 pm, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Riverton Christian Church.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Riverton Christian Church with Reverend Grant Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Riverton Christian Church or St. John’s Hospice.
