RIVERTON – Gary N. Watson, 66, of Riverton died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1942, in Springfield, the son of Robert and Geraldine Kiska Watson. He married Carol Nail on June 24, 1961.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol Watson of Riverton; a daughter, Kim (husband, Greg) Carver of Springfield; three sons, Eric Watson (companion, Kari McLean) of Springfield, Jeffrey (wife, Ashleigh) Watson of Sherman and Daniel (wife, Caitlin) Watson of Macomb; 17 grandchildren, Ryann, Kasey, Lexie, Ali, Mitchell, Claire, Mason, Erin, Tyler, Jonathon, Adam, Matt, Katie, Ellie, Izabelle, Connor and Drew; a brother, Jerome (wife, Kathy) Watson of Springfield; three aunts, Alice Watson of Chicago, Virginia (husband, Bill) Kleban of Riverton and Wanda Porozinski of Mountain Home, Ark.; an uncle, Jack Watson of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary was a lifelong resident of Riverton. He worked for the state of Illinois as an event coordinator for the Department of Natural Resources.
Gary’s passion was his wife, children and grandchildren, attending all their events and sports activities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many years as an advocate for youth hunting and fishing programs. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal and Illinois fan and became a very good and proud friend with Red Schoendist.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4 p.m. until time of memorial services at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Dixon officiating.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Conservation Foundation for youth hunting and fishing programs.
