Frank G. Madonia, 78, of Springfield, died at 4:38 pm, Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born June 29, 1933 in Springfield, IL to Joseph and Frances Sgro Madonia. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Nestler and three brothers Andrea, John and Vincent Madonia.
He married Sandra G. Locricchio on May 9, 1959 and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Joseph (Joanne) Madonia of Lake of the Hills, IL, Frances (Jim) Farley of Omaha, NE and Bill Madonia of Springfield; eight grandchildren; Chelsea, Danielle, Melissa, Tyler, Alexis, Victoria, Rafaella and Frank; ex-daughter-in-law, Deana Madonia of Springfield; six sisters, Rosalia Guarella of Las Vegas, NV, Lucia Midiri of Springfield, Nena (Carl) Rothe of Sherman Oaks, CA, Josephine (Larry) Romang of Springfield, Theresa Nicastro of St. Louis, MO and Margaret Passeri of Naples, FL; one brother, Sam Madonia of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Roseanne Madonia of Springfield and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frank was a member of St. Agnes Church in Springfield and St. Finbarr Church in Naples, FL; ISPE, Roman Cultural Society where he served as Past president, St. Finbarr Knights of Columbus and the Springfield Morning Optimist Club.
Mr. Madonia was employed as an engineer with Crawford, Murphy & Tilley. He worked for the City of Springfield as City Engineer and served as Commissioner of Streets and Public Works, and also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was Director of Public Utilities for the City of Springfield and General Manager of the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4pm. The Roman Cultural Society will conduct a service at 6pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Friday, July 22, 2011 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas and Reverend Mark Shulte officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Agnes parish; Sisters of the New Covenant, 16449 Grays Way, Broomfield, CO 80023 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
